Fancy A Session?
Just arrived today and hopefully built tomorrow, a Trek Session 8.
Whilst downhill is a small part of the market quite a few of our staff, Steve & Pete in Weston and Mike & David in Bridgwater are active in this part of cycling.
I know they are excited by this bike and if it floats your boat pop in and have a look.
The remarkable thing about modern day downhill bicycles is that they have better suspension than the motorcross bikes I used to sell in the 1970s!

Paul's Products 7
These Tifosi Veloce glasses worked really well on Sunday as I rode up onto the Quantock Hills. I was amazed how many others were also cycling, I probably counted more bikes than cars!
The really interesting feature with these glasses is they sit just off your face which allows air to flow and keeps the lenses mist free. They have lenses that react to the light and dark keeping your light levels pretty constant. I was surprised when I looked in the mirror at home that the lenses were dark and I thought they were clear.
They are very comfortable and stylish, not cheap at £70 but then I am worth it, are you?

Src Ilton Road Races
I spent an excellent time at Ilton on Saturday with Angie (Mrs K for those who don't know). We had taken the big van with awning to give the race officials shelter if it rained, it did just as the last race finished.
The racing was exciting and I was delighted to see so many young riders. Parents of young competitors have to fork out a lot as children grow very quickly but it's still a relatively inexpensive sport involving wheels.
For the Cat 1 & 2 race we joined Commissaire Ray in his car chasing the riders round the undulating airfield. Ray is a seasoned competitor and his talk of tactics and racing in generally made the whole event come alive for Angie.
Hopefully I can make the next round on 22nd of April, the van and awning will be there whatever.
Congratulations to all the winners and a big thank you to all the officials for putting on the event.

A 3rd Generation Family Business?
Coming in slightly ahead of time and weighing in at 5.2 (Madone connection?)meet Arthur 'Bradley' Kenchington.
No1 son and heir Alex along with partner Lyndsey have created and delivered a grandson and heir to the Bicycle Chain. He is a great little chap and mother and baby are doing well.
Whilst I had not considered being a grand parent just yet, I already feel built for the role. Don't tell anyone but I was cooing over baby grows this morning!

Bradley Wanna B
Our dummy may not be so daft after all. This week he has sellected the Kask Bambino time trial helmet as warn by Sir Bradley and the Sky Team.
I hope I have not lost my senses as we have the white and black versions in stock, a snip at £299! The white one is in Bridgwater and the black one in Taunton. Drop in try one on and see if you look as fast as Bradley.
What I have kept to myself with my winter riding is that I want to do a 10 mile time trial this year. I have needed to get faster (still a long way to go) so I don't need lights and the time keepers are not kept waiting. I will keep putting in the miles but I will be there this summer.
I would not be so foolish to turn up at my first TT wearing the Bambino but lots of our really good TT customers might well see their PBs drop with this helmet.

How Much Quicker Is £6k Vs £1k
The question is often asked, is it worth the money and what benefit will I get.
This week Alex (No 1 son) took a Trek demo 6 series bike on the Corfe to Blagdon Strada challenge. On his winter training Giant Defy aluiminium a couple of nights earlier Alex set his new PB of 29 minutes.
Armed with a DI electric geared Trek carbon race demo bike he rode the same route. It was the first time he had ridden the bike and was chuffed not only to be the new fastest time on Strada but also his new PB.
The answer 2 minutes or nearly 7% better! Whether you can justify or afford the extra £5,000 only you will know but at least you now have some idea based on our local conditions.
Thanks Alex and in your own time as well, that's my boy!

Carbon Test Day This Weekend
The photo is all Bianchi's test bikes lined up and ready to go. So much bling in one place it could get an old man's pulse racing.
No 1 son Alex has been preparing for his test day for many weeks and all that might stand in the way is the weather. Wrap up warm but remember the route has a nice climb to get the heart rate up!
I think my Sunday ride may include a tasty £10k Italian steed so I can get close to one of my cycling heroes.......who else but Fasto Coppi.

Kask Visit
We had a visit today from Kask's General Manager Diego and Sales Manager Ylenia. They are in the UK looking at shops selling their fine helmets and we had an interesting discussion about the quality and perception of their brand.
Kask have been in business the same length of time as the Bicycle Chain and have very strong business morals like us. They are all about making their helmets to very high standards in Italy where they have full control over their product.
We talked about their involvement with Bradley Wiggins and the Sky Team which again came down to shared values.
I have an invite to visit the factory which I may well find a couple of days free to do. My lovely wife believes Italy is a paradise so I doubt I will be going by myself!
