QUANTOCK MTB TEST DAY – UPDATE – 20/10/2011
THE GOOD NEWS - We have had such a great response to the test ride day that we now have a limited number of places left. If you are looking to come along for the day please contact us asap to ensure you get a place. Encouragingly a number of people new to the sport are looking to come along and try the easier route, so please don’t be put off if you are new to mountain biking.
THE BAD NEWS - Due to Forestry Commission regulations we cannot provide the BBQ, we will still have refreshments in the form of tea, coffee, cakes, flapjack, biscuits and of course energy bars and gels.
PEDALS & HELMETS - If you are not bringing your own bike and you normally clip in, please bring your own pedals. We will have some Shimano SPD pedals but not enough for everybody. You will not be allowed to test ride any of the demo bikes without a helmet so please make sure you bring one along, we will however have a couple of spares should you forget.

Learning To Drive
Denise who works in our Bridgwater shop (not her picture) wanted to do more as my web assistant and help with the stock. Because she didn't drive it limited her role too much.
Solution learn to drive which she did, passed her test first time (respect) and then.....
Yesterday Denise drove to Weston from Bridgwater, by herself, on the motorway in my undamaged nearly new van. For those who know Friday 5pm on the M5 is a tough drive. Considering this is only the third time she has driven solo she deserves a massive round of applause!

Marketing 2
Times are tough and it is said that the one thing you must do more of is marketing. The trouble is this is said by people selling advertising who are faced with declining business!
I thought I would try something different and booked some billboard advertising in Taunton this summer. Working with a big canvas is different and I think the results were pleasing. Did are business improve? Who knows and that has been the great thing for the advertising business but times are changing with the web the fastest driver of this change.

Marketing 1
After years of unmarked vehicles I took the plunge and had both vans sign written.
It took sometime to get used to and I now have to drive in a manner that doesn't bring the firm into disrepute.
One really interesting facet is the reaction of our customers and I am very pleased to be in a business where customers are pleased to let you know they bought from you. I don't see the supermarket delivery van getting waves when he is out delivering.

'were Getting The Band Back Together'
For fans of the Blues Brothers I hope I have the correct words.
The Taunton branch band have been out of action for a while but I caught them practicing in the Taunton workshop the other night. New member of staff Des, 2nd from the left, is a welcome addition to the team and to the band as well.
I was chuffed to bits that they were jamming, because I like music? No because I had help to unload the van!

Tour Of Britain Prelude
The Taunton Town Centre Management organised an event to highlight the Tour of Britain starting in the town.
Myself, Alex and Brian spent a very enjoyable day meeting old and new customers. As I am very seldom in the town these days, I met several friends who I have not seen for years, including Jeff who is the local paper photographer and did not take this photo!

According to the poster it is at Wellsprings Leisure Centre, Cheddon Road, Taunton TA2 7QP. Sorry there is no direst phone number or web link but 01823 271 271 is the centre's number where they may be able to help.

Trek 2012 Product Launch
No1 son Alex and myself visited Trek UKs new Milton Keynes head office and distribution centre yesterday.
Apart from seeing all the very expensive top of the range Treks, the vast warehouse and plush new offices we had a chat with John Burke, picture above, Trek's President (Managing Director in UK speak).
I like Trek because of John, he owns the company. Not just the shares but the output, he is like me what his company does is a personal reflection of himself. No faceless share holder squeezing every penny out of staff and customers but a business owner wanting to be the best of the best.
Oh by the way all the other suppliers are wondering how the 2012 Trek range is such great value for money and so good looking. Could it be the 'John' factor?

Deadlines
Phew, I have just finished our company leaflet that should have been done 14 years ago when we opened in Taunton.
How have I managed to achiev this after all these years, a deadline. We are in Taunton this Thursday in a pre Tour of Britain town centre event and I felt we needed something to help promote our business.
My thanks have to go to Kathryn Sharpe who does my art work and her printers who received the artwork Monday am and delivered the 600 leaflets on Tuesday lunch time.
No more drawing maps on bits of paper, how goods that!
