CANNONDALE TRIGGER

Cannondale have recently launched the completely redesigned Trigger with exclusive features, new developments and unique additions to maximise the rider’s efficiency and enjoyment. At Bicycle Chain, we were excited to get our hands on the overhauled Trigger. We were particularly taken with the full suspension setup and geometry that combine to create a machine which handles like a dream.

Have a watch of our video overview and read more about its features below.

Key features

There are three models in the Trigger range, appropriately named 1, 2 and 3, with the 1 being most costly and the 3 the cheapest. However, there are several features that remain the same across the board.

For starters, the outstanding all-mountain geometry is standard. It is designed to maximise control in high-speed descents and for all-day rideability. To help in the handling and stability, the drivetrain has been moved over by 6mm, allowing the chainstays to be the shortest in the Trigger’s class. This means that the rider’s weight is further over the rear wheel which leads to greater traction and agility, while also allowing for uncompromised tyre clearance.

The suspension is where the excitement sets in, though, with the brand new Gemini system paired with the Fox Float 34 fork up front. Developed in collaboration with Fox, it is essentially based on the Fox Float X rear shock, but with some extra bells and whistles. The Gemini rear shock enables the rider to adjust float on the fly with a remote-actuated dual mode air spring system controlled from the handlebars. The two modes are ‘Flow’ which offers the full 145mm float, perfect for belting it on descents, and ‘Hustle’ with 115mm float, ideal for acceleration, climbing and nailing sprints.

This setup would be great for anyone racing enduro, where you not only want to descend like a dream but be able to knuckle down and pedal hard without too much flex. The shock is bolted to a carbon link regardless of model or price; a feature exclusive to Cannondale.

Elsewhere, Cannondale have responded to demand with the addition of bottle cage mounts for those long days on the trails or when you don’t want to carry a pack. Beneath the down tube there is a replaceable carbon guard to protect the frame from flying rocks and crunchy descents. Finally, the cable routing chips offer superb versatility via an exceptionally clean design, so the Trigger will accommodate 1x, 2x or Di2 setups.

The Cannondale Trigger is a bike ideal for all-mountain riders who look for long days in the saddle with a bias towards rapid descending. Buckets of fun are guaranteed in a bike that is not just versatile, but also great value.

Cannondale Trigger 3
Along with all the features listed above, the Trigger 3 has a WTB Frequency Race tubeless-ready wheelset wrapped in Maxxis Minion 2.3” tyres. Gearing is provided by Shimano XT 1x 11speed, and it is equipped with Shimano hydraulic disc brakes. A TransX dropper seatpost with 120mm drop and Cannondale finishing kit round out a fantastic package.
