E-bikes for commuting

E-bikes are sweeping the globe, rapidly hushing the haters who doubted their use, necessity and place in the world of cycling. As a tool to get more people riding – the elderly, injured, unfit – they are fast gaining respect, and even starting to inspire race series the world over. As the technology develops and the prices start to drop to around the £1,000 barrier, it’s easy to see the benefits – and for commuting, e-bikes really come into their own. Here’s a list of some of our favourites:

Just like everything else in the world of cycling, there are a huge variety of e-bike designs to suit different riders. We’ll start with your standard commuter; the one that even non-cyclists would instantly pick out as the town bike.

Raleigh Array Low Step E-Bike

The Raleigh Array Low Step E-bike is the least expensive on this list, but there is no compromise when it comes to style or capability. Its E Motion motor is paired with a 36V battery and the bike has a range of over 108km, which is absolutely huge! The bike is finished with mudguards, a rear carrier and an Ursus Wave kick stand to make it a stress-free and versatile commuter.

Giant Easy E+ E-Bike

The Giant Easy E+ e-bike is a modern take on a classic city bike with all the comfort and style of a traditional pedaller, just with a little added boost. The SyncDrive F clutch motor offers a smooth, silent and safe ride that will get you to work without shedding a bead of sweat.

Trek TM2+ E-Bike

What do you get when you introduce Trek’s high-quality frame to a super powerful battery from Bosch? The Trek TM2+ e-bike; a reliable, safe and fantastically well-equipped bike for the everyday commuter.

Giant FastRoad E+ E-Bike

Just because your new bike is built around a motor, that does not mean it can’t be a high performer in the more traditional . The Giant FastRoad E+ makes use of the same ALUXX Aluminium as can be found on Giant road and mountain bikes, hydraulic disc brakes and a Shimano Tiagra groupset. As for the all-important power, the Giant SyncDrive Sport is paired to an ExtraPak 400 36V fast charging battery for lengthy commutes all year round.

Specialized Turbo Vado 2.0 Women’s

With many of the same features as its more expensive cousins, the Turbo Vado is the perfect ride for the woman about town. With the Rx Street Tune and 460Wh battery, the more power you put in, the more power the motor provides. There’s plenty of juice to get you from home to work, with a detour to your favourite coffee stop along the way.

Trek Super Commuter+ 8 E-Bike

The aptly-named Super Commuter+ 8 from Trek is based around a high-performance frame that enhances comfort and control at whatever speed. An integrated frame-mounted Bosch 500Wh battery gives the bike a fast and race-ready look and the Bosch Performance CX motor helps you pick up speed while staying safe – and not smelly – on your rapid ride from work.

There’s plenty more where this list came from, with models from all sorts of different brands, and this is only the commuter and hybrid bikes.
