With the summer now very much upon us and Spanish weather seemingly the new norm for the UK, it’s about time we made the most of this constant sun. It’s time to grab a bike, friends, family and head out for a fun-filled, sun-fuelled adventure.

The open road

Winner of some of the world’s top professional races, the Trek Domane is a heavyweight among the pro ranks – a real endurance all-rounder for classics-style races. The SL 6 Disc 2017 model is the perfect machine for those looking to mirror their cycling superstars while not breaking the bank.

The Cannondale Synapse Carbon 105 provides the perfect step up from your first alloy road bike. Built around a super-lightweight carbon frame, it comes complete with Shimano 105 shifting, making this bike a dream to ride.

For those looking to begin their road bike adventure this summer, the Trek Lexa 2 is the perfect answer. A sturdy and tough alloy frame with reliable Shimano Sora shifting mean that this bike is ready to ride straight out of the box.

For the trails

If your summer adventures are more likely to head into the mud-packed off-road realms, then a true trail conqueror will no doubt be the bike for you.

Cannondale’s Tango 2 is an MTB that could handle just about any terrain thanks to Suntour suspension and wide 2.2” tyres that can cruise across all manner of rough surfaces. Another option is the Specialized’s Stumpjumper Comp which takes this up a notch. With a lightweight carbon frame, SRAM 11-speed GX and the very best RockShox suspension, this bike is a true trail conqueror.

For something a little more relaxed, perhaps more suited to cruising the back lanes, holiday camps and canal tow paths, the hard tail Cannondale Trail 1 AGR could just be the perfect machine.

For the little’uns

No adventure is complete without the family tagging along, and with that in mind, Bicycle Chain offer a wide range of child-specific bikes perfect for getting the whole family out together this summer.

The Frog 73 is the perfect bike for those budding cyclists just moving away from their stabilisers. A sturdy aluminium frame, reliable Shimano shifting and Tektro brakes make this a perfect beginner bike that is ready for a few knocks and scuffs along the way. Freespirit’s Summer 24” is another bike that fits the beginner specification, with a little bit of suspension and extra gearing for those beginners wanting to head onto the off-road.

Kids will always go for the coolest looking bike available so they can dazzle their friends on and off the bike, and what’s better than a BMX to do just that? Haro’s Leucadia is a true stunt BMX but with altered geometry for the smaller riders who still want to rip the parks with the pros.

Summer apparel

Summer fashion is just as important off the bike as it is on, not to mention the fact that the warm weather calls for some specialist lightweight and more breathable gear.

Endura’s Hummvee jersey is the perfect choice for those just getting into cycling and not quite ready to fork out for top-shelf lycra. Boasting all the performance features of a top-end jersey, with rapid-wick textured fabrics, triple rear pockets and reflective panels, this is a top that can be worn for any kind of riding. The Bontrager Specter fits the same specifications, only with breathable mesh inserts, making this is a perfect choice for long summer rides.

The bottom half is just as important as the top, with shorts often dictating the comfort of your ride. O’Neal’s Helter Skelter inner shorts are lightweight, breathable and the perfect combination with your regular baggy shorts to make the longer, warmer rides that bit more comfortable.

Don’t forget your shoes

Whether you’re after flat rubber soles, clip-in MTB shoes, or streamlined carbon-soled road shoes, the Bicycle Chain summer sale has you covered. Bontrager’s Velocis Road Shoe is one of their most elite models, with its Boa closure system ideal for the snug and aerodynamic feel. Specialized’s Wr35 SPD may not be as high-tech, but a 3-strap closure and durable outer make this an ideal entry-level shoe.

For footwear that can cross all terrains, look no further than Specialized’s Cadette. These shoes are vented and breathable, stiff and durable, but most of all versatile with the option to attach SPD cleats. This shoe is just as comfortable off the bike, as it is on the bike.
