Tame the trails

It’s yet another new bike day here at the Bicycle Chain, and this time it’s thanks to Trek. The American brand has recently released the 2020 Trek Fuel EX and it’s a thing of beauty. In this post, we will preview the new range and hopefully get you as excited for it as we are. We’ll also take a look at the other transformative trail bikes we have in stock from Trek and other brands.

The all-new Trek Fuel EX

Trek have clearly taken the ‘new decade, new me’ mantra very seriously, as they’ve taken the Fuel back to the drawing board for its fifteenth year. This has allowed them to work from the ground up and create the archetypal trail bike. They promise us that it’s “fast on singletrack, light on climbs and stable through the rowdiest terrain.”

Doesn’t it look good! Long term fans of the range will notice the new suspension layout that the EX 9.9 has adopted. Trek have dropped the classic full floater system in favour of an integrated Fox Factory Float shock. This not only performs just as well as the full float system, if not better, but it frees up space at the back for more rear tyre clearance. The frame on the top model is full carbon, which puts the 9.9 at quite a high price point, but there’s a frame for every budget in the range, including the alloy-framed EX 5.

A nice added detail (on the carbon models) is the hidden storage compartment in the downtube which can accommodate a tube, CO2 cartridge and inflator, tyre lever, etc. so you don’t need to ride with a saddle or frame pack. The new Fuel has an expanded size range to ensure a better fit for every rider and you can choose the correct wheel – whether it be 27.5” or 29” – for your frame size. Trek have tinkered with the geometry as well. The head angle is slacker, the seat tube deeper and the reach has been increased by 10-20 millimetres.

The Fuel EX 9.9 is the perfect all-rounder, at home on singletrack and tricky trails, and is perfect for any event. Furthermore, the Fuel EX 9.9 is fully customisable through Trek’s Project One system, so if you have your heart set on different components or colourways, have at it!

Fuels at the Bicycle Chain

We have the new Fuel EX range at the Bicycle Chain from the top-notch EX 9.9, all the way to the more economical alloy-framed EX 5. Subtle changes are applied to each bike as you move through the range, but one thing is for certain, each bike has the capability to ensure maximum enjoyment while you are shredding the trails.

Other trail tamers

We stock a huge range of full suspension mountain bikes in our stores, perfect for long days in the saddle and any cross country or enduro race. The pick of the bunch includes a large range of 29ers from Giant and the ever popular Specialized Stumpjumper, a bike that has long been touted as the ultimate shredder. We have plenty of budget options too for riders who don’t want to cross the grand mark.

If any of the bikes mentioned have piqued your interest, why not come down to one of our stores and see them for yourself? You can also chat to a member of our staff who will be happy to assist you on your trail smashing journey.
