What Trek Says

Domane AL 5 is a smooth, capable road bike built for riders who want performance without sacrificing comfort. Its Alpha Aluminum frame pairs with a 12-speed Shimano 105 drivetrain for precise shifting and a wide gear range. All-day geometry keeps you comfortable on longer rides, while bigger tire clearance and top tube mounts add versatility for light gravel, gear, or daily commutes.

  • Lightweight designA new full carbon fork and updated frame design helps shave around half a pound from the previous generation Domane AL Disc.

Features and benefits

What you get
Why it matters
01

Aluminium frame and carbon fork for all-day comfort

A 100 Series Alpha aluminium frame with all-day endurance geometry and a full carbon fork, with the complete bike weighing 9.80 kg in size 56.

The relaxed, stable riding position lets you settle in for long Sunday loops without your back and neck complaining, while the carbon fork takes the sting out of rough lanes before it reaches your hands.

02

Wide-range Shimano 105 gearing for hilly routes

Shimano 105 R7100 2x12 gearing with 50/34 chainrings and an 11-34T cassette.

Your lowest gear pairs the 34T chainring with the 34T sprocket, so you can keep turning the pedals on steep climbs, and 12 close steps give you a comfortable gear when the road rolls or the wind picks up.

03

Disc brakes for confident stopping in all weathers

Flat-mount disc brakes front and rear, working on 160 mm Shimano CL700 CentreLock rotors.

Disc brakes keep biting consistently when the lanes are wet and gritty and won't wear through your rims, so you can tackle winter commutes and long, twisting descents with confidence.

04

Comfy 32 mm tyres on tubeless-ready wheels

Bontrager Paradigm 23 tubeless-ready rims on sealed-bearing hubs, fitted with 32 mm Bontrager Kwaremont Comp tyres with Hard-Case Lite puncture protection.

At sensible pressures the 32 mm tyres soak up broken tarmac and rough lanes, a big part of this bike's all-day comfort. The tubeless-ready rims let you go tubeless when these tyres wear out, for fewer flats.

05

Mounts and clearance for year-round riding

Mudguard mounts on the frame and fork, top tube mounts for carrying gear and extra clearance for wider tyres.

Fit full mudguards and this becomes a year-round commuter and winter bike that keeps you and your riding mates drier, while wider tyres open up towpaths and light gravel tracks when you fancy leaving the tarmac.

06

Standard parts that keep servicing simple

A threaded Shimano RS501 BSA bottom bracket, a round 27.2 mm alloy seatpost and a Universal Derailleur Hanger (UDH).

A threaded bottom bracket is simple to service and less prone to creaking after wet winter commutes, while the common seatpost size and universal hanger make spares and upgrades easy to find for years to come.

Long days on the lanes are what this bike is made for. It is an endurance road bike, with all-day geometry that sits you a little more upright and handling that is steady and forgiving, so you stay comfortable for hours. Trek's Madone is the aero bike in the range, built around outright speed, while the Domane is the one for long, smooth miles on any road.

Steep lanes are where this build earns its keep. With a smallest chainring that matches the biggest sprocket, you get a 1:1 bottom gear, so you can keep turning the pedals in the saddle on climbs that would have you grinding on taller gearing. Twelve gears also mean smaller jumps between them, so you can always find one that suits your legs on a long drag.

For club runs, hilly sportives or long weekends away, the step up makes a real difference. Both share the same aluminium frame, rims and tyres, but the AL 5 swaps the AL 2's 8 gears at the back for 12, with a wider spread that makes steep climbs kinder. It is lighter too, at 9.80 kg against 10.35 kg in a size 56.

Seven sizes cover riders from 150 cm (4 ft 11 in) to 191 cm (6 ft 3 in), and if you are 174 to 180 cm (5 ft 9 in to 5 ft 11 in) a 56 is usually right. Between sizes, let your inside leg decide. If the reach needs fine-tuning we can swap the stem or bars, and we never charge for fitting parts bought with your bike.

Mixed-surface rides are a real strength. Towpaths, forest roads and broken back lanes are all fair game on its 32 mm tyres, and the stable ride keeps you relaxed when the surface turns loose. It is made for light gravel, so save rough, rocky trails for a dedicated gravel bike and enjoy linking quiet roads with smooth byways and bridleways.

It is ready for year-round riding and the commute. Both the frame and the fork have mudguard mounts, so mudguards bolt straight on and keep you and the bike much cleaner through a British winter. Top tube mounts take a small bag for snacks, keys and a spare tube, and the disc brakes give you dependable stopping in the wet.

At 9.80 kg in a size 56, it is a sensible weight for an aluminium endurance bike, and the carbon fork keeps the front end light while helping smooth out rough tarmac. It is easy to lift onto a car rack or carry up the steps at home, and it is rated for a combined rider, bike and luggage weight of up to 125 kg.

You can go tubeless whenever you like, because the rims are tubeless ready. Fit tubeless tyres, valves and sealant and you can run slightly lower pressures for extra grip and comfort, while small punctures seal themselves before you notice. It is a popular switch before winter, when hedge-cutting season leaves the lanes scattered with thorns.

As the original owner you get a lifetime warranty on the frame and fork, and a later owner gets 3 years from your original purchase. Trek covers parts, accessories and paint for 2 years, while other brands' parts, like the Shimano gears, carry their maker's warranty. Crash damage and normal wear and tear are not covered, and claims go through an authorised Trek retailer, so keep your proof of purchase.

If you commute on it daily, bring it in for its free first check at your nearest Bicycle Chain store within 3 weeks, or within 6 weeks if you ride less often. Book in straight away if anything feels off before then. After that, a service every 6 months, or 12 if you ride occasionally, keeps the gears crisp, the ride smooth and the resale value high.
