Features and benefits

What you get
Why it matters
01

Big-bike alloy frame with adjustable geometry

A 6061 T6 aluminium full suspension frame with adjustable geometry and ISCG mounts ready for a chain guide.

It's built like an adult enduro bike, just scaled down for a smaller rider. It's ready for steep singletrack and bike park laps, and you can tweak the geometry and add a chain guide as your riding steps up.

02

150 mm RockShox suspension for rough trails

A RockShox Psylo Gold fork with a DebonAir+ air spring and Rush RC damper, paired with a RockShox Deluxe Select RT air shock with adjustable rebound, giving 150 mm of travel front and rear.

Both air springs can be set for a lighter rider and adjusted as you grow. The suspension soaks up roots, rocks and landings and keeps your tyres gripping when the trail gets rough.

03

Shimano CUES 1x10 gearing for steep climbs

A Shimano CUES 1x10 drivetrain with a 30T chainring and an 11-48T cassette.

The 48T sprocket gives you a really low gear for spinning up steep climbs to the next descent. With one shifter and no front mech, there's less to think about mid-trail.

04

Four-piston hydraulic brakes for steep descents

Tektro M5141 four-piston hydraulic disc brakes with sintered pads and 180 mm rotors front and rear.

Four pistons and 180 mm rotors give strong stopping from a light pull on the lever, so your hands stay fresh on long descents. The sintered pads keep biting in wet, gritty British mud.

05

Grippy Schwalbe tyres on wide tubeless-ready rims

Tubeless-ready Whyte Trail 27.5 in rims with a 30 mm internal width and 2.5 in Schwalbe Albert tyres, with a Super Soft Trail Radial up front and a Soft Radial at the rear.

The Super Soft front grips in loose corners and over wet roots, while the Soft rear wears more slowly. Going tubeless lets you run the lower pressures that suit a lighter rider, with fewer punctures.

06

TranzX dropper post for descents and jumps

A TranzX dropper seatpost with 120 mm of drop.

Drop the saddle at the top of a descent and you've got room to move the bike around under you on steep rolls, corners and jumps. Then raise it again for the climb back up.

07

Mullet-ready for a nimbler, more playful ride

It rolls on 27.5 in wheels front and rear and can be converted to a mullet setup with a 26 in rear wheel.

A smaller rear wheel gives you more room to get your weight back on steep sections and makes the bike quicker through tight corners, so you can change how it rides as your skills grow.

Proportioned properly

Proportioned properly

Sythe 27 is built to fit from the first pedal stroke, not something to "grow into" while everyone else rides off without you. Cockpit, cranks and reach are all sized to suit a younger rider's frame, so nothing feels borrowed, oversized, or vaguely apologetic. It's proper enduro geometry, just proportioned sensibly – because there's nothing confidence-inspiring about a stem that's longer than the rider.

Suspension that does the worrying for you

Suspension that does the worrying for you

At the heart of Sythe 27 sits our Quad-Link 4 suspension, tuned to take the sting out of rough terrain, awkward roots and the occasional overly-ambitious line choice. It keeps things composed when the trail doesn't, and precise enough that tight, twisty singletrack doesn't feel like a personal attack. The result is a bike that quietly gets on with things while the rider gets all the credit.

Built to survive the weather, and everything else

Built to survive the weather, and everything else

Whatever the British weather throws at it – and we do mean whatever – Sythe 27 is built to keep working. Weather-sealed cable ports, hose routing and seat clamp keep the worst of the water and grit out, while generous tyre clearance means mud has to try considerably harder to cause problems. Chainstay and downtube protection take the rock strikes so the frame doesn't have to, and phosphate-coated, marine grease-packed pivot bearings are built to keep quietly doing their job through yet another soggy British winter.

If your child is already riding steep, rooty trails and bike park laps, the Sythe 27's full suspension makes a real difference: the rear wheel keeps tracking the ground for grip, the bumps are soaked up and they finish the day less tired and more in control. If they mostly ride gentle trails or are still learning the basics, a hardtail is a simpler place to build skills first.

Plenty for rough trails and bike park tracks, with 150 mm front and rear. Both the fork and the shock are air sprung, so rather than feeling too stiff for a lighter rider, the pressures can be set with a shock pump to suit their weight and raised as they grow. Adjustable rebound on the shock keeps the back end composed over repeated hits.

Bike park laps are exactly what it's built for. Four-piston hydraulic brakes with 180 mm discs front and rear give strong, steady stopping on long, steep descents, and their metal pads cope well with heat and wet grit. A super-soft front tyre bites in loose corners, and the frame has mounts ready for a chain guide to keep the chain on over rough ground.

Steep climbs are very manageable. The easiest gear is well below 1:1, so your rider can keep spinning up loose, technical climbs instead of grinding to a halt, and a single chainring means just one shifter to think about. Short 160 mm cranks suit smaller riders and keep the pedals clear of rocks and roots, while the rear suspension helps the back tyre grip on rough ground.

On steep descents and jumps, it lets your rider drop the saddle out of the way with a push of a lever, without stopping, then pop it back up for the next climb. With 120 mm of drop there's room to get low and move their weight back, which builds confidence quickly. It's a big part of why the Sythe 27 feels like a grown-up trail bike.

For riders who want a more playful feel, it's ready to convert to a mullet setup, with the 27.5 in front wheel and a 26 in rear. The bigger front still rolls over roots and rocks, while the smaller rear gives more room to get behind the saddle on steep ground and makes the bike easier to flick through tight turns. It's a handy option for smaller riders.

As your rider gets faster, the Sythe 27 is easy to build on. It's designed around common standards, from the 210 x 50 mm rear shock size to Boost axle spacing front and rear, so there's a wide choice of better shocks, forks and wheels that will fit. Pick any upgrades, including a different stem or handlebar, when you buy the bike and we'll fit them at no extra charge.

You get a two-year frame warranty for the original owner against material and manufacturing defects, plus one year on parts and on paint and decals. Register the bike free with Whyte within 28 days of purchase and that frame cover becomes lifetime. The suspension pivot bearings also have lifetime cover for the original owner, so worn bearings are replaced free through a Whyte dealer.

Every bike we sell gets a free first check at your nearest Bicycle Chain store within six weeks, sooner after a big weekend at Bike Park Wales and straight away if anything feels wrong. After that, we recommend a service every six months for regular riding or every 12 months for occasional use, which keeps the suspension smooth and helps resale value when they move up.

Best not to. A pressure washer can drive water and grit past the seals into the frame's pivot bearings, the wheel hubs and the fork and shock, which shortens their life. A low-pressure hose or bucket, a soft brush and bike cleaner do the job, then dry it off and lube the chain. Wiping the fork and shock clean after each ride helps the seals last.
