This mountain bike wheel package provides trail riders with a perfect combination of light weight, stiffness, durability, and an incredible ease of use.
Our engineers at Specialized launched a quest for a better wheel design. They began experimenting with different tyre widths and came up with a versatile 30mm inner rim width, which provides excellent support for the bike's tyres without inheriting the bulk of a fat bike rim. They discovered that the wider rims enhanced overall traction and noticeably enhances stiffness by providing additional tyre volume and enabling lower pressure. This results in improved tyre performance, especially during hard cornering.
To achieve this innovation, the Traverse SL Fattie 27.5 is designed using our Zero Bead Hook technology which eliminates the weak spot found in traditional wheels. Coupled with the wider profile, this creates a carbon rim that successfully disperses forces. Thus, despite its strength and impact resistance, the Traverse SL Fattie 27.5 is not heavy, justifying its 'fattie' tag.
The rims are hand-built to our own alloy hubs with the highest quality DT Swiss Competition Race spokes. Inside our hubs, you will find DT Swiss 240 internals with a swift 54t DT Swiss star ratchet system at the rear. The quick engagement allows you to confidently power over rocks and roots without any delay.
